One question haunting fans of The 100 has been: What on earth does A.L.I.E. want?
A.L.I.E. — the artificial intelligence played by Erica Cerra — has been peddling the “City of Light” to all who will listen. Anyone can get there simply by ingesting a mysterious chip. The former Chancellor of the Sky People, Jaha (Isaiah Washington), has already been taken in and is now acting as A.L.I.E.’s spokesperson.
However, the chip, which seemingly takes away pain, is not the dream come true that some might hope for.
Raven (Lindsey Morgan) took the chip to escape the pain of her spine/leg injury, but later realized that something is very wrong with this “City of Light” business. She soon realized that the chip apparently takes away memories that might also be associated with painful experiences. Speaking at WonderCon, Lindsey Morgan said that in future episodes of The 100, “You get to see the hold that the chip has on people. You see Raven put her mentality to the test.”
Executive producer, Jason Rothenberg, revealed A.L.I.E.’s secret agenda: “Jaha and A.L.I.E. are on a mission to chip all the people who are left on earth. I don’t think they counted on Raven’s tenacity and her strength of mind. We’ll now see that A.L.I.E. is going to have to figure out a way around. Can she overcome Raven’s free will? At some point, everybody will be tempted and we’ll have to wait and see if everybody can overcome that.”
The 100 returns Thursday at 9 p.m. ET on The CW.SuperFable
