4 Burning Questions We Want Answered When Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Returns

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

After a three month hiatus, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is finally returning to TV tonight. Here are four burning questions we can’t wait to see the show take on.

How will the handover of power go down?

Coulson, Daisy, and Mack on 'Agents of SHIELD'

When the winter finale ended, Mack was still acting head of S.H.I.E.L.D. It’s expected that he’ll hand the job right back over to Coulson — he didn’t want it in the first place, but it could be a prickly business. If everyone finds out what went down on the alien planet — how Coulson killed Ward with his bare hands — there might be some who hold out against Coulson taking up the S.H.I.E.L.D. mantle once again. Especially since (in his own words) he’s ‘done some things and crossed some lines that a director of S.H.I.E.L.D. shouldn’t cross.’ It will be interesting to watch.

When will the team find out what Ward really has become?

Brett Dalton as Hive in "Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D."

When the S.H.I.E.L.D. team sees Ward’s face for the first time, there’s bound to be a ton of confusion. (A) Either Coulson lied about killing him, Or (B) He was somehow brought back to life. I don’t think anyone will consider that Ward isn’t really Ward. He’s (it’s?) the Inhuman god that Hydra has been trying to bring back to our planet. It will be interesting (and probably hilarious) to see how the realization sinks in with all the people who hate Ward.

But I wonder, will there be any of Ward’s personality or memories left behind once Hive takes over.

Are FitzSimmons over forever?

Fitz and Simmons just have the worst luck when it comes to love. The two — who are clearly meant for each other — have repeatedly been broken up by events beyond their control. Now, with Will, Jemma’s extra-planetary crush, dead at Fitz’s hand, is all hope of getting back to normal for two of our favorite SHIELD agents lost forever? Maybe the cosmos really does want them apart?

How many Secret Warriors will be introduced?

Joey and Lincoln -- the Secret Warriors

One thing the promo materials for the midseason premiere have made clear is this: The Secret Warriors are a go. Daisy Johnson will lead a team of Inhumans ‘taking action with S.H.I.E.L.D.’ But how many Inhumans will be a part of the Warriors? For now there’s three — Joey, Lincoln, and Daisy. A fourth one, Slingshot, will be introduced when the show returns. With this sneak peek making clear that Inhumans are growing in population, there certainly aren’t a limited number of recruits for Daisy to pick from. But how many will join SHIELD and the Secret Warriors to help protect the world?

All (or some) will be revealed when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns Tuesday night, at 9pm EST on ABC.SuperFable
