Batman Voice Actor Kevin Conroy: There’s ‘More Batgirl, More Internal Struggle’ in The Killing Joke

Batman and Joker in 'The Killing Joke'

Batman voice actor Kevin Conroy took some time to explain how the upcoming animated movie, The Killing Joke, expands on the novel.

He told DC All Access, “They’ve expanded some of the story a bit. There’s much more Batgirl in this — so that plot line is more developed. And the internal struggle that Batman has in wrestling with the demons and the Joker is much more explored.”

Conroy said he “really proud” of some “really wonderful” scenes he did with Joker voice actor Mark Hamill. He added, “[Batman]’s actually trying to — I think, at one point — draw the evil out of the Joker. It’s a very cathartic process for Batman…It’s a very complete arc for him.”

The voice  actor also spoke of one of the most famous scenes from the comic — the one where Batman and the Joker laugh with each other as the story ends. Conroy said, “Batman laughs…very heartily,” an even gave a tease of what that sounds like.
