Chris Pine on What Makes Wonder Woman Different from Other Superhero Movies

Actor Chris Pine appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! last night to talk about his new film The Finest Hours.

Pine, however, is currently filming the Wonder Woman movie in London. He plays Wonder Woman’s “better half”, Steve Trevor. Kimmel took the opportunity to ask him a few questions about that project, and Pine provided some insight into what will make Wonder Woman different from other comic book superhero movies.

Pine said:

It takes place in World War I. If I’m being honest, I think what’s really neat about it is that you know with all the Thors and the Captain Kirks, I feel like with men at the helm its always this revenge cycle kind of thing. An eye for an eye, we’re going to go get the bad guys and the bad guy is defeated. What I think is really lovely [about] having a woman at the helm of something like this is just by virtue of her being a woman there is a great deal of more compassion and love at the center of the story, which for something as big as a film as this is going to be and with the kind of eyes that are watching, I think it’s wonderful in the little bit that we could do to hopefully inch this universe towards something not as aggressive and violent as this one.

Kimmel also asked Pine about Wonder Woman’s invisible plane (which Pine said he knew nothing about), and about the Lasso of Truth, about which Pine said he couldn’t talk specifics.
