Confirmed: Captain America is No Longer Captain America

Steve Rogers is no longer Captain America

The ending of Captain America: Civil War left fans wondering about the status of Steve Rogers in the MCU.

Like, is he even Captain America anymore?

The answer is no. In honor of the film coming to DVD and digital, directors Joe and Anthony Russo cleared up a few things in an interview with The Huffington Post.

When asked about Cap’s status, Joe said, “I think him dropping that shield is him letting go of that identity. [It’s] him admitting that certainly the identity of Captain America was in conflict with the very personal choice that he was making.”

That raises the question, where will Rogers stand in Avengers: Infinity War? He won’t be suiting up as Cap. He may not even be a part of the Avengers officially, but writers Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely guarantee he’ll be there. “There’s a big purple guy coming. [Steve Rogers] could be very helpful,” Markus said.

Captain America: Civil War will be released on DVD and digital on September 2, 2016.

Avengers: Infinity War is set to hit theaters on May 4, 2018.
