Producer Roy Lee says the live-action adaptation of manga Death Note will be rated R.
Lee told Collider, “It’s definitely for adults. It is zero chance it will be below an R-rating. [The tone of the film] will be one of the first manga adaptations that feels very grounded but still has fantastical elements.”
He’s also “fairly confident” that production will begin this year.
Death Note centers around a high school student who discovers a notebook that lets him kill anyone just by writing their name in it. [Gasp.] Said student will begin a quest to “rid the world of evil” people, bringing him into conflict with a police detective.
It was created by writer Tsugumi Ohba and illustrated by Takeshi Obata. It has already been produced as an anime film and a Japanese live-action film.
Nat Wolff, of The Fault in Our Stars, will portray the main character.SuperFable
