Doctor Who Spinoff Class Will Have LGBT Lead Characters

The cast of 'Class'

Patrick Ness, a writer of the Doctor Who spinoff Class, has revealed that the show will have at least one LGBT lead character.

The news was meant to be kept quiet for longer, but he revealed it on social media in a show of solidarity over the tragic shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando this weekend.

Class is set to follow a group of students — played by Greg Austin, Fady Elsayed, Sophie Hopkins, and Vivian Oparah, at Coal Hill School. Katharine Kelly is portraying a prominent teacher.

According to io9, “presumably either Austin or Elsayed’s character (unless there is an as-yet-unrevealed male character joining the series) will be portrayed as both openly gay and in a committed relationship.”

Class is set to air sometime this year.SuperFable
