Warner Bros. unveiled glimpses of the Wonder Woman movie this week during a special television event on The CW.
The film, which is set during the era of World War I, tells the origin story of Amazon princess Diana (Gal Gadot) and how she becomes the legendary superhero.
DC Comics Chief Creative Officer Geoff Johns said, “Wonder Woman is one of the greatest superheroes out there, but people don’t know her origin like they know Superman’s origin or Batman’s origin. What we want to do in this film is tell people who she is, where she comes from and why she does what she does.”
Johns continued, “These Amazons were created to protect man’s world, but they since abandoned it. Diana is asking constantly, ‘Why don’t we go do what we were created to do and protect man?’ and they say, ‘Because they’re not worth it.’ And this takes her on a journey into our world.”
Interspersed with commentary, footage from the film shows Diana riding a horse, fighting soldiers, training on her home island of Themyscira, and putting on a diguise from the early 1900s. Gal Gadot said, “We’re going to see her coming of age, the entire history, and what’s her mission.”
