Fish Mooney, the ambitious crime underboss who was presumably drowned in Gotham harbor during the finale of the show’s first season, is set to be resurrected.
TVLine reported that Jada Pinkett Smith has signed on to reprise her role as Fish Mooney for multiple episodes when Gotham returns from its midseason break.
Much of Gotham‘s first season covered Mooney’s conniving plans to take down crime boss Carmine Falcone. Her plans were foiled by a former underling, Oswald Cobblepot (aka Penguin), who shoved her into the harbor from the top of a building and declared himself the “king of Gotham.”
At the time, Gotham executive producer Bruno Heller suggested that Fish might just be able to survive her new habitat. He said, “I would definitely not assume anything in a town like Gotham. It’s very unpredictable, the comic book world.”
It will be very interesting to see exactly what capacity Fish Mooney will return in, and whether her agenda will stretch farther than just revenge on the Penguin.
