While most fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. think FitzSimmons finally kissing and letting their feelings for each other be known is long overdue, at least one half of S.H.I.E.L.D.’s brainy brilliant duo has misgivings.
Iain De Caestecker (who plays Leopold “Leo” Fitz) thinks kissing his co-star, Elizabeth Henstridge (who plays Jemma Simmons) is bizarre. He told IGN, “Me and Elizabeth are like really good friends, so it’s weird that side of it. It’s like kissing my sister — not that I would.”
He joked that he had “not been enjoying it very much.”
In all seriousness though, De Caestecker added, “But having seen the evolution of their relationship, it does seem quite fitting that eventually they [did]. It always seemed like it was going in a romantic direction.”
For her part, Elizabeth Henstridge is perfectly fine with Jemma and Leo taking things up a notch. She said, “It feels to me like we’ve earned this moment of calm a little bit; that you can’t have too much volatility in a relationship and you can’t ask too much of the audience… [FitzSimmons] have been through so much and have nearly lost each other so many times that for them where they are at the moment, we don’t know what’s happening, we don’t know what our relationship is going to turn into, or if we’re going to be friends or more, any of that stuff, but it doesn’t really matter because at least we’re both alive and on the same planet.”
Alive, on the same planet, and in love.
