Most of S.H.I.E.L.D. — the actual team, not the show — was off its A-game last night. But, not FitzSimmons!
The brainy duo went on a mission to Romania to track down a doctor they hoped could help cure Daisy from her Hive infection. But that’s not the big event everyone’s talking about the morning after.
Yes, the real business went down in the bedroom where Leopold Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) and Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) consummated a relationship “ten years in the making.” The scene was well-played and absolutely appropriate for two love-shy nerdy types.
So, what happens the morning after?
Of course, we’ll have to wait and see when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. returns next week. But the showrunners are already teasing the next chapter — laughter and complications.
Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen told EW: “We imagine FitzSimmons spend the morning after laughing a lot about what just happened… We want their relationship to feel like their friendship did, because all the best relationships are just that. So moving forward, while this change in their friendship would hopefully only deepen their connection, it is bound also to make things a bit more complicated.”
Okay, brace yourselves. Knowing this show, happiness won’t last forever. But please don’t dump them at the bottom of the sea again, or get either of them trapped on a distant planet.
If anyone deserves a long season of happiness, it’s FitzSimmons.
Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. airs Tuesdays at 9pm EST on ABC.SuperFable
