It’s happening! The long-talked about musical episode of Supergirl will be produced in Season 2.
But that’s not all: The Flash will be joining in on the fun.
On the last day of the Television Critics Association’s multi-week press gathering, the CW universe of TV shows revealed several important tidbits of information.
Executive producer Greg Berlanti said the Buffy-style Supergirl/Flash musical crossover will be made up of “mostly pre-existing songs.” He also said it won’t be a filler episode: the musical will actually contribute to the stories of both shows. He added, “It will probably be an element of being inside a character or characters’ head.”
Other important revelations:
- A character who is “significant” across Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow will be “exploring their sexuality, and dealing with coming out.” Unless it’s somebody new, I have no idea who this might be. LGBT characters on the shows include Sara Lance and Curtis Holt whose sexuality is already known an accepted.
- Supergirl showrunner Ali Adler revealed that the pod which landed on Earth at the end of Season 1 contains another super alien, Mon-El, played by actor Chris Wood. He has abilities similar to Supergirl and, in the comics, sometimes stood in as a substitute for Superman.
- Miss Martian is also joining Supergirl. She will be played by Sharon Leal. In the comics, the character is a White Martian who has abilities similar to Martian Manhunter.
- The villain of Oliver Queen‘s flashbacks in Russia has been cast. He will be played by Dolph Lundgren. Arrow executive producer Marc Guggenheim confirmed, “This will be the last season with flashbacks.”
