Gillian Anderson has posted an image on Twitter, teasing her role as Media in American Gods.
In the upcoming Starz TV adaptation of Neil Gaiman‘s bestselling novel, Anderson portrays one of the “new gods.”
The official character description of Media describes her as “the mouthpiece for the New Gods, functioning as their public face and sales representative, by taking the form of various iconic celebrities. She lives off the attention and worship that people give to screens — to their laptops, their TVs, to their iPhones in their hands while they watch their TVs. Ever the perky spokesperson, and always in control, she spins stories in whatever direction best suits her.”
Co-star Ricky Whittle praised Anderson’s portrayal of Media, calling her performance ‘incredible, exciting, and astounding.’ Ricky Whittle is portraying Shadow Moon.
American Gods follows recently released convict Shadow Moon as he accepts a job to become a bodyguard/traveling companion for a mysterious man named Mr. Wednesday. During their long journey throughout the United States, Shadow meets Mad Sweeney and learns that a war is brewing between the nation’s traditional gods of mythological roots and an upstart pantheon of gods reflecting society’s modern love of money, technology, media, celebrity and drugs.
