Stephen King has confirmed that Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey will be starring in the movie version of The Dark Tower.
Speaking exclusively to Entertainment Weekly, the bestselling author along with directer Nikolaj Arcel said Elba will portray the gunslinger and McConaughey will take on the role of “the man in black.”
King is “delighted” and “surprised” that the film is finally moving forward. “The thing is, it’s been a looong trip from the books to the film,” he said. “I started these stories as a senior in college, sitting in a little sh-tty cabin beside the river in Maine, and finally this thing is actually in pre-production now.”
The Dark Tower follows gunslinger Roland Deschain as he roams an Old West-like landscape in search of the dark tower, in the hopes that reaching it will preserve his dying world.
