Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them won’t hit theaters for nearly five more months, but J.K. Rowling has already written the script for its sequel, and has ideas to make it a trilogy.
The bestselling Harry Potter author is riding her broomstick into theaters for the first time as a screenwriter this November, and there has been massive interest in ‘Fantastic Beasts’ especially since no one has ever read this story before. (Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is the name of a textbook about magical animals in J.K. Rowling’s Wizarding World.)
Director David Yates, who helmed the last three Harry Potter films, spoke about the challenge of bringing another of Rowling’s stories to the big screen without the expectations of millions of fans who have already read the books.
No one quite has ownership of [the story] yet in terms of having a relationship with the material, other than the relationship they’ll have with the movie when it comes out. So, it’s sort of lovely in a way. When we adapted the [Harry Potter] books, you would have to leave things out that you hated leaving out because they didn’t quite work within the structure of the storytelling of the movie or the movie would just be far too long. With this, it’s just pure Jo from the first page to the last page.
…She’s done the first one. She’s written the second one. She’s got ideas for the third one.
Barring something truly surprising, the first film will be a massive hit, and the second film will soon be on its way to theaters as well.
Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will be in theaters on November 18th, 2016.SuperFable
