Since Heath Ledger’s performance, the bar is set high for any depiction of the Joker in a film adaptation.
And if Suicide Squad director David Ayers is to be believed, Jared Leto has met and exceeded that bar.
Speaking to Total Film magazine, Ayers made this much plain:
What Jared Leto has done is absolutely incredible. When he steps onto the set the world stops. Everything stops. What he’s done is so powerful, so menacing, so palpable, you can feel him. The crew stops working and just watches him. I have to get everybody going again because he’s so fascinating.
Leto stars alongside another highly-anticipated character who is making her first appearance on the big screen — Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn.
Suicide Squad is in theaters on August 5th.
