In an upcoming episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., viewers will see Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) taking on tough training to prepare herself for possible field duty.
In Episode 10 of the current season, Jemma found herself out of her comfort zone after being kidnapped by Hydra. To save herself, she freed the Inhuman villain Lash/Dr. Andrew Garner who rescued her but went on to kill several innocent and imprisoned Inhumans.
Elizabeth Henstridge, who portrays skilled biochemist Jemma Simmons, says Jemma is carrying around a lot of guilt regarding that incident and is determined not to be in such a helpless position again.
She told IGN, “[Jemma’s] beating up on herself that she allowed herself to make an emotional decision with someone she felt like she trusted who then betrayed her, because making emotional decisions, she’s still kind of new at it. She doesn’t trust that instinct in her as much as she trusts the scientific side, and it came around to bite her in the bum a little bit.”
Regarding Jemma’s new training regimen, Henstridge said, “She’s going to try to arm herself, but also it’s a period of growth for her to realize you make mistakes and you make decisions in an instant. It’s another thing she’s got to carry on her back. It’s another motivating factor to keep being a SHIELD agent and keep trying.”
One thing’s for sure: Jemma’s not the person she was when Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. began. And it remains to see who she’ll eventually become.SuperFable
