The next movie in The Divergent Series has a new director — Lee Toland Krieger.
Robert Schwentke, who directed Insurgent and Allegiant, reportedly needed a break from the film series.
The third film, Allegiant, is in theaters on March 18th. The final installment, Ascendant, is scheduled to begin filming this summer in Atlanta.
Lee Toland Krieger previously directed Age of Adaline. According to The Hollywood Reporter, he is currently in negotiations with Lionsgate to direct Ascendant.
Although Veronica Roth’s Divergent book series only has three books, the final book is being split into two films — Allegiant and Ascendant. The story follows Tris (Shailene Woodley) and Four (Theo James) as they discover the truth of their dystopian society — that they’re part of an experiment to heal the post-apocalyptic Earth they live in.
The tagline for Ascendant is — “The end is never what you expect.”
