Apparently, Robert Downey Jr. is game for a fourth Iron Man film. He’s even suggested that Mel Gibson be the director.
Shane Black, who directed Iron Man 3, told Uproxx, “I think he wants Mel Gibson to direct it. And for good reason. Mel was great to him. Mel’s been really nice to a lot of people, including me.”
Obviously, this is no official announcement, but Black had more to say: “One of these days, maybe Downey will do another one. I’d love to work with Robert again.”
When the interviewer informed him that Downey has repeatedly said no to another Iron Man film, Black said, “He’s mellowed on that.”
If another Iron Man movie is indeed in the works, a question that will likely be addressed is Gwyneth Paltrow‘s character, Pepper Potts. As of Captain America: Civil War, Tony Stark and his long-time assistant/girlfriend are no longer together. So, maybe another Iron Man movie will explore what happened between them and what Potts is up to now.
More than likely, it will also see Potts move more into her superhero character, Rescue.SuperFable
