News about the movie franchise based on C.S. Lewis’ popular Narnia fantasy novels has been sparse of recent months. But producer Mark Gordon says the film series is very much alive.

The Mark Gordon Company had previously announced in 2014 that, after three movies being made in the franchise, the fourth film, The Silver Chair, was in development.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association winter tour this month, Mark Gordon said, “We’re hoping to be able to make the movie very shortly. We’re very excited about it.” However, the new film won’t be a strict continuation of the current Narnia movie franchise — meaning, the same actors likely won’t be reprising their roles in films going forward. Gordon said, “It’s all going to be a brand new franchise. All original. All original characters, different directors, and an entire new team that this is coming from.”

In June of 2014, screenwriter David Magee tweeted (privately) that he had completed a first draft on The Silver Chair movie. He said it was “fulfilling” and had taken him over a year to complete.

Three movies have been released in The Chronicles of Narnia franchise: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe  (2005), Prince Caspian (2008), and The Voyage of the Dawn Treader (2010).

The Silver Chair will follow the story of an elderly King Caspian who is on his deathbed and two children who are called out of this world into the Narnian one to help find the lost Prince Rillian, the heir to the throne. Along the way, they will meet talking owls, a melancholy marshwiggle, giants who want to eat them, and an evil underworld queen who has an army of gnomes planning to invade Narnia from below.SuperFable
