Shadowhunters Showrunner Ed Decter Leaves Series Over ‘Creative Differences’

Ed Decter, the man who helmed Shadowhunters‘ freshman season on Freeform, has left the show.

Decter developed Cassandra Clare’s bestselling urban fantasy/paranormal novels, The Mortal Instruments, into a relatively successful debut run. The show was renewed for a second season in March. A new showrunner has not been announced.

Deadline‘s Nellie Andreeva reported that “Decter departed a few days ago and was not present at the first table read for Shadowhunters‘ second season. I hear the departure was over creative differences, and the new showrunner(s) are expected to tweak the series’ creative direction for Season 2.”

The good news is that production on Season 2 will not be hindered by Decter’s departure.

Last week, Shadowhunters won a Teen Choice Award for breakout TV series. And Matthew Daddario, who plays Alec Lightwood, won for breakout TV star.SuperFable
