What did Daisy Ridley do to earn the wrath of the internet?
She sympathized with the victims of gun violence.
In an emotional statement posted on Instagram and Facebook, the Star Wars: The Force Awakens actress wrote:
Thinking about how lucky I am like… Serious bit: as I sat in the audience yesterday [Teen Choice Awards] tears were streaming down my face at the tribute to those that have been lost to gun violence. I didn’t get a great picture of the incredible group that came onstage but they were so brave. It was a true moment of togetherness. We must #stoptheviolence.
Her statement is as non-offensive and “vanilla” as they come, but reports indicated that she was savaged on Instagram for more than a day by gun rights enthusiasts. Ridley closed her Instagram account on August 2 and took down the post above from her Facebook account the following day.
“Comments on the post were overwhelmingly negative, insulting her for weighing in on the issue for reasons ranging from her nationality to the fact she has appeared in movies with (laser) guns,” Deadline reported.
The actress nor her representatives have responded to requests for comment.
An unofficial Twitter feed that shares news regarding Miss Ridley said she had ceased activity on social media to focus on another project.SuperFable
