Yesterday, Paramount released a trailer for a film called 10 Cloverfield Lane.
Directed by J.J. Abrams, the movie appears to be a follow-up to the found footage flick, Cloverfield. But, if you’re looking for a direct sequel, it’s not. J.J. Abrams has called it a “blood relative” to the 2007 monster movie.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, John Goodman, and John Gallagher Jr. portray the film’s lead characters. The trailer shows them in what appears to be some kind of bunker, reading, eating, and putting together jigsaw puzzles. After something outside makes the bunker shake, the trailer ends violently, with Winstead’s character turning on the other two and attempting to leave the bunker.
Back in 2014, Variety published the following synopsis of the film, when it was being made under another name.
The majority of the movie takes place in an underground cellar, and revolves around a young woman who wakes up in the cellar after a severe car accident and fears she has been abducted. Her captor, a doomsday prepper, tells her he saved her life and that there has been a terrible chemical attack that has left the outside uninhabitable. She does not know what to believe and as tensions rise, she decides she must escape, regardless of the terrors that await outside.
10 Cloverfield Lane will arrive in theaters on March 11, 2016.
