Tyler Hoechlin is the latest actor to take up the mantle of the Man of Steel.
He’ll be playing Superman in the first two episodes of Supergirl when the show returns for its second season this fall on The CW.
Of course, it will be hard for viewers not to compare him to the looming figure of Henry Cavill‘s Superman (as seen in Man of Steel and Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice). But Hoechlin says he won’t be sizing himself up against Cavill.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Hoechlin said, “I never try to compare and contrast performances because it’s such an iconic character already. Superman is Superman so I’m just going to try to carry on the tradition of that and play that part.”
The actor, who was promoting his current film Everybody Wants Some, said he’s most looking forward to finding out where Clark Kent is in his life in Supergirl’s world. “I’m just excited to find out Clark’s sense of humor.”
After the casting announcement was made, Tyler Hoechlin tweeted, “Could not be more honored & humbled to be given the opportunity to play this incredible & beloved character. Can’t wait to get to work!”
